Over 30 Teachers Benefit from Free Training in Lagos

Train The Teachers (TTT), 2021 was initiated by Top Figures Capacity to support education development through teachers' capacity building.

The training idea was birthed as a result of the falling standard of education in our nation - Nigeria. It was discovered that school teachers who are major stakeholders in driving education are being overly neglected in the scheme of capacity building and training. Most teachers in Nigeria are obsolete and still use the traditional method of teaching in our school system, hence the need to bring the training to them.

School Teachers in Olodi Apapa Ajegunle area of Lagos State were hosted to this free capacity building training by Top Figures Capacity in conjunction with Pacesetter Arts Company on Friday, 17th September, 2021.

In attendance were 12 Primary and Secondary schools represented by 32 teachers from the various schools.

The CEO of Pacesetters Arts Company, Pacesetter Samuel Akintade, in his opening address, informed participating schools and teachers that they are proud partners and sponsors of this first of its kind training in Apapa area of Lagos. He said: "we are doing this as a means of giving back to the society, particularly schools that are primarily our customers for all our theatre production over the years".

He was full of praise to schools who took the advantage of this unusual opportunity to have their teachers scale up and build modern capacity to be top notch teachers who can compete with others from anywhere in the world.

The lead facilitator of the training, Gboyega Adekanye, the Principal Partner of Top Figures Capacity a management consulting firm, held the participants spell bound as he meticulously delivered his presentation at the training. He celebrated the Nigerian teachers for their tenacity, and ability to multitask. He also mentioned that the society has recklessly abandoned the development of the Nigerian child on them. Mr. Adekanye encouraged them to offer their best as their reward would soon catch up with them if they do not give up.

He drew the attention of Participants to the elements of Good Teaching, Mastering and Knowing Learners, Class Management as means to Scale Capacity to Teach. During the interactive sessions, there were deliberations on effective teaching, work-life balance and investing in other streams of income for teachers' sustainability.

At the end of the Free Training, all participating schools were presented with Certificates of Participation.  Participants were all treated to a light refreshment.

The teachers, in their testimonies, were excited to experience this first of its kind training in the environment. They commended the organizers for taking the initiative to put the training together in a conducive environment, not excluding good presentation, certification and entertainment. A few of the school administrators in attendance also gave kudos to the organizers for taking the initiative to assist teachers in Olodi Apapa Ajegunle.

The event was anchored by the award winning Mc and entertainer Mc John Black.

In their closing remarks, the organizers hinted that this is the beginning of a new era in giving  helping hands to teachers. Since the turn out was quite encouraging this year, the organizers said they would work on another edition of the training.

Pacesetters Art Company seeks to use the opportunity to inform all participating schools to prepare their students to be a part of the enactment of "The Lion and the Jewel" a Wole Soyinka drama that has been chosen as one of the literature for the new academic session. The stage performance is scheduled for sometime in October, 2021 in Lagos.

Also, school teachers were encouraged to inform their school management that the training is available for each school who would like to run an in-house capacity development training for their school teachers at affordable fees.

The management of both Top Figures Capacity and  Pacesetters Art Company were excited at the turn of the event and they hope to look into other critical areas of education that they can explore and proffer solutions to them.
