Covid-19: Perspective, Introspective and Retrospective

Image
T he lockdown was announced officially after about a month of the index Covid-19 case in Nigeria. Movement was restricted to the compound we live with family members as your only companion. We stocked the house with food and other daily essentials. The airspace and land space were declared closed; nobody comes in nobody goes out! The world was sort of in a hanging limbo. Like most people all over the world, our glue to our phones was a major means to get a piece of the latest update on the global pandemic, it's spread and containment measures. Many issues rented the air, from further fears of the spread of the disease to apprehension of possible hunger in the lockdown and the fact that a few majority have this disbelief about the whole pandemic. The pandemic brought with it, unusual words that became usual and we had to grapple with understanding and accepting them. Words like quarantine, isolation, asymptomatic, maintaining social (maybe physical) distance with loved and unloved o...

The Fear of Mr. Unknown

The Fear of Mr. Unknown This poem you are about to read is dedicated to every dreamer; I trust it will serve as a good reference for you. There is no Unknown and if there is, I bet the “Unknown” is afraid of you! Enjoy! Mr. Unknown is the man with many quotes Mr. Unknown is a ghost, the ghost of a hoax Mr. Unknown is the tree that starts to grow in a ground where a seed was never sown He’s got no I.D, we’ve got no evidence Where is the proof of his existence? Mr. Unknown is the enemy of Success A friend to them who regress, who regret But he’s a midget definitely not a giant yet many fidget, involuntary pants Mr. Unknown is the smoke without a fire yet you choke although you respire Mr. Unknown is the beat without a drum the heat that you feel without the sun Is this man or it’s an illusion? Darn! It must be an apparition! Your dreams, ambitions and your hopes Your visions of unborn tomorrows are dangling from a Grim reaper’s ropes Hanging on the si...
DO YOU KNOW THAT SATISFACTION IS A SYMPTOM OF DEATH? Welcome to Jovialval blog this 2016. To those who have subscribed to the blog, you are well appreciated and the numerous visitors and viewers thank you all. Let's get started in 2016 and be accountability partners. Do you know that 'Satisfaction is a symptom of Death’? I’ll share an experience I learnt from one of my teachers (@iamsteveharris) Let me prove it; you are hungry, you got some good food to eat and gets so full and satisfied. Because you don’t want to lose your feeling of satisfaction you refused to go to the toilet, you refused to let go of what is on the inside of you, very soon your body system begins to shut down and ooops! So 'let go' and 'Stay Hungry' yes stay hungry. Refuse to be satisfied with where you are. No matter how you enjoyed your University, you would not want to stay for more than your required academic years. Where you are is not enough.   'Blessed are...

God is Involved

Malachi 3:3 says: 'He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver.' This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God. One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study. That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver. As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities. The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: 'He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.' She asked the silversmith if it was tr...

The 8 Keys of Excellence – Definitions and Descriptions

INTEGRITY – Match behaviour with values Demonstrate your positive personal values in all you do and say. Be sincere and real. Living in integrity means that everything we say and everything we do are true reflections of what we value, what’s important to us. Think about what your behaviour says about you. Does it clearly show others what you value? Do you show up as honest and committed, or dishonest and indifferent? Are you spending your time with the people and activities you value, or is your focus elsewhere? When we live in integrity we are sincere and true to ourselves—we don’t say or think one thing and do another. People trust and respect us, our relationships are solid, and we feel good about ourselves. Those positive feelings from others and within ourselves reinforce our values and build our reputation and self-esteem, leading us to greater success in all areas of our lives.   FAILURE LEADS TO SUCCESS – Learn from mistakes View failures as feedback that prov...

THE NATION BUILDER CAMPAIGN kicks off! On the 5th of February 2014 by 12noon, all traffic led to a certain point on the cyberspace. People started talking about it. People started tweeting about it, many social media platforms were engaged in the nationwide campaign. It’s called the “I am a Nation Builder campaign”. Many people who desire to identify with the dream of building Nigeria and making it the most desirable place to live in by December 31st 2025 stood up and spoke out. “My name is……., and I am a Nation Builder! Are you?”. This was the question everyone was asking. The question started spreading like wild fire across the social media with vehement alacrity. Most especially on Twitter where the traffic was concentrated, the GEMSTONE NATION BUILDERS NETWORK (@WeAreGEMSTONE) began with a series of interviews with Nation Builders, starting with the National President of GEMSTONE NATION BUILDER NETWORK, Wisdom Osiri (@OsiriWisdom). PERSONAL BRAND

What It Really Means to Have a Personal Brand Taking a look at what is happening in our country and all around us a lot has been said about unemployment, loss of job due to retrenchment policies, and failing businesses just as the economy started to unravel around us. People were losing jobs left and right, and many found themselves stuck in a place they didn't want to be. As I watched people wrestle with career and personal decisions, I began to realize one thing: managing a career is like managing a  BRAND .  So I decided to put some big brand theory to use on the most important of all our brands: Ourselves. Let us see how to help people formulate what works best for them personally and professionally. I would argue that each of our  personal brands  began at birth. When Mom and Dad gave us a name, they unknowingly launched a new brand, the first of a lifetime of personal decisions that makes us each uniquely our own being -- or brand. From that day forw...

IT'S TIME YOU LIVE FOR YOUR CALLING

NOT THE WAY YOU PLANNED Once there were three trees on a hill in the woods. They were discussing their hopes and dreams when the first tree said, ‘Someday I hope to be a great treasure strong box. I could be filled with gold, silver and precious gems. I could be decorated with an intricate carving and everyone would see the beauty.’ Then the second tree said, ‘Someday I will be a mighty ship. I will take Kings and Queens across the waters and sail to the corners of the world. People will feel safe in me because of the strength of my Hull.’ Finally the third tree said.’ ‘I want to grow to be the tallest and straightest Tree in the forest. People will see me on top of the hill, look up to my branches, and think of the heavens and God and how close to them I am reaching. I will be the greatest tree of all time and people will always remember me.’ After a few years of praying that their dreams would come true, a group of woodsmen came upon the trees. When one came to the first tr...
